Superintendent Danny Adkins announces the results for Floyd County teams and students who competed in the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition’s JV Challenge this past Saturday. This competition included students from Betsy Layne, Floyd Central, Prestonsburg, Belfry, East Ridge, Letcher County Central, Pikeville and Shelby Valley High. The JV Challenge is a competition for 9th and 10th grade students.

Adkins comments, “Our Floyd County team is very proud of our students who compete in academics and seeing our students take more than one third of the top spots in the JV Challenge for Section 16 is outstanding.  Students from all three high schools earned spots in every content area.” Adkins went on to congratulate the top scoring team saying, “Congratulations Floyd Central on placing first in Quick Recall and first overall. Two of the Jaguar team members have scores in the Top 10 in the State! Congratulations Kade Scott on scoring second in Arts & Humanities and Preston Crase on scoring sixth in Social Studies in Kentucky!”

“If you missed the competition,” Adkins continued, “we want to invite you to attend an academic meet this weekend. Floyd Central is hosting the high school level and Adams Middle is hosting the middle school level of the East Kentucky Academic Conference this Saturday, November 17. Students will take assessments in the early morning but starting around 10:30 to 11:00, teams from all over our region will be competing in Quick Recall.” Adkins continued praising the level of competition in EKAC saying, “Teams from this conference score at the top in state competition in March so you’ll be able to see some competitive matches.”

Adkins ended saying, “We want to thank our parents, staff, and community members for your amazing support for our students whether it is academic, athletic, performing arts and everything else in which our talented students are involved. We truly appreciate your support.”
