State Bound Middle School Academics!

Superintendent Shepherd announces the results for Floyd County Schools’ middle school academic team students who competed in the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition (KAAC) Regional Governor’s Cup this week at Johnson Central Middle. Region 22 consists of middle school grades from Adams Middle, Allen Elementary, Betsy Layne Elementary, Duff-Allen Central Elementary, John M Stumbo Elementary, South Floyd Elementary, Johnson Central Middle, Martin County Middle and Paintsville Independent. Individuals scoring in the top five and teams in 1st and 2nd advance to state. 

Superintendent Shepherd comments, “Congratulations Duff-Allen Central Elementary, Region 22 Runner Up Overall, and in Quick Recall and in Future Problem Solving! We are so proud of this team!” Shepherd continues, “Congratulations Adams Middle, 3rd overall in the region and 4th in Quick Recall! Congratulations Stumbo Elementary, 3rd place in Future Problem Solving!”

Shepherd mentioned individual students saying, “I want to congratulate two students who each placed in two different content areas; Taryn placed in Science and Language Arts, and Braxton placed in Social Studies and Arts and Humanities!  Congratulations Alexandria and Luke for your achievements in Math and Ally in Science! Congratulations Jacob on your success in Social Studies and Amelia on placing in Arts and Humanities! And congratulations to Sierra and Kylie for placing in Composition!”

Shepherd says, “Our region is one of the top regions in the state for academics. We have always enjoyed outstanding competition from neighboring districts and we are so proud to see students from all 6 of our different middle schools placing at the regional level! This is no easy task and this shows the hard work and dedication that these students are putting into preparing for competitions! We hope you will join us in celebrating these students and wishing them the best of luck at KAAC state competition in March!”
