Young Authors Introduction

Young Authors is a Kindergarten through Eighth grade program in Floyd County Schools. A brief history shows that in the 1985-86 school year, the Floyd County School -Community Partnership leaders learned about the Young Authors program from through the Prichard Committee. On June 18, 1986, the Floyd County Board of Education voted to make the Young Authors Program a part of the language arts curriculum. The first Young Authors celebration was in the spring of 1987.

The program began with hand-sewn books, and has advanced to digital books and a district library! We are very proud of our students for their books!

This website and our Young Authors handbook serve as tools to help students and teachers and parents to learn about the categories and the rules that guide the work so students may enter the Young Authors competition.
Every school has a Young Authors Coordinator and the district has a County Coordinator. Call (606) 886-2354 for more information.
