Superintendent's Message

August 10, 2022
I look forward to returning to a school year with a focus on the whole child, whole school, and
whole community. Our goal continues to be to inspire, innovate, and instill learning with our
students and staff, so they each experience growth, support and success.
K-12 students will return to classes Aug. 24th. Then, on August 31st, Preschool/Head Start
students will begin their year. Click below to view our 2022-2023 school calendar.
Our top priority is the health, safety and well-being of students, employees and visitors to our
facilities. Click below to view our Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services
Plan.
We have witnessed some of the worst devastation in our area’s long history, but we have also
seen the best in humanity as our community joined together and provided strength and hope to
those in need. These past few weeks have thrown tremendous challenges our way, but Floyd
County, our students, families and staff have proven resilient.
I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving you as your superintendent and cannot say
enough good things about how each person in this school district and in our communities have
worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of friends and neighbors. Everything you do matters
forever.
The start of a new school year is a time marked with enthusiasm and anticipation. This year is no
different, and a new year provides an opportunity to re-establish our educational goals and
routines. Let's continue to make one another proud to be Floyd Countians as we continue to
make progress together this year.
It is because of you - your dedication, understanding, patience, support, and grace for Floyd
County Schools and one another - that we can make a tremendous impact.
Warm regards,
Anna Whitaker Shepherd
Superintendent
Floyd County Schools
